    When politicians discovered that extending them would buy votes at election time.

      Seems like the Republicans don’t even view it as wrong. Extending them delays when people finally move from where labor is not needed to where it is, artificially props up wages, and burdens the businesses who are still alive with higher unemployment taxes to recover monies being paid to all the people they laid off 2 years ago… increasing the chance they will fail and/or delay when they call people back to work….
