Rush hour comes to 9 AM – for a long time, I’ve had a series of measures in place to protect the server from being overloaded at 12:00-12:15ish when the Rush crowd arrives – blocking access to the testing functions, suppressing the listings of all shows, blocking the statistics functions that read the log files.
The system broke again today during the 9 AM hour, so I’ve extended the same protection to the 9 o’clock hour. There also is some evidence that the “select a random poll” function is where a lot of the database stalling is happening, so I think I’ve also disabled that during the peak periods…
