Romney has a problem – the Obamacare bill was largely patterned after the Massachusetts system that he advocated – just requiring all 50 states to do the same thing. For Romney to come out now and say Obamacare is a bad thing puts him in a box – which is exactly why the Dems used his plan as the prototype.

I heard Romney on Hannity’s radio show (I believe) some time last year. When asked about Romneycare, he threw the legislature under the bus, stating they took his basic ideas and turned it into compulsory health insurance. It seemed disingenuous then, and his attacking this monstrosity seems disingenuous now.

A couple of points, first, by adding cherry picking a policy here and there from a program is not the same as making an identical program, the addition or subtraction of any piece is enough to make it worse than one existing, but first and foremost of all…that is a STATE program and is an entirely different issue, the STATES have the right to take up such issues, the Federal government does not nor has it ever had the authority to enforce states to do such things. That in itself is a violation of the Constitution.
The key to all of this is the income tax. Federal control relies on and is enforced by the income stream coming from Washington. When the Federal government had to exist on the things they were originally empowered to tax (excise taxes, import fees), what they were able to do was very limited by the lack of funds. Passing the amendement that allowed the Federal Income tax is what forever changed the balance of power.
