SEIU is at it again… in the Golden Sta…

SEIU is at it again… in the Golden State. Picket lines surrounding the Capitol building in Sacramento.
I guess they are upset because Arnie is having manditory days off. to ease the debit of the state.
Maybe Andy Stern feels that they should get paid, for not working. Its not like being laid off for months or years like the private sector people loosing their jobs completly, its just short time, almost like a mini-vacation. Iv’e said it before and I’ll say it again, I was a Union member for a lot of years, and have made the statment many, many times, unions have outlived their usefullness. and have become a cancer on the Nation.

About 3tooz

Now a retired truck driver (47 yrs ) I still get up at 3 am to listen to my radio programs

Great news! A judge has ordered the governor to end the furloughs.

There have been other similar situations where judges have told governors they can’t not spend money the state doesn’t have.

The back story on the Kansas City school system was that a judge took over the school system because he wasn’t satisfied with the amount of money they were spending and ordered something like a billion dollars in new construction – the idea being that with “good” schools, white suburban children could be convinced to be bused back into the inner cities to somehow help minority students by their presence in the class room. It didn’t work.

Apparently, the other big excitement was community college statudents being bused in to demand more funding for their professors. For a state that’s broke, higher education is an obvious place to cut spending, for a lot of reasons.

My neice in SD is a senior, has a 3.7 GPA, involved in Sports and school activities, is a foster child and both her adoptive parents don’t have college degrees (all of which earn you extra admission points) and she was declined admission to SDSU.
Seems CA is so out of funds they take out of state students over the children of tax paying citizens of the state.
Which is why I left the state.

From what little I’ve read on the subject, I’ve heard that these days they put more emphasis on your non-academic activities than your proven ability to learn. It’s probably too late, but she should have announced she’s a lesbian, led a rally against global warming and worked weekends for Habitat for Humanity – then she would be “in”… Or filled out her application in Spanish..

If California state employees are like government employees everywhere else, they already are being paid for not working. In this situation, it’s more a matter of being paid for not showing up.
