NRA scaremongering phone call…. I’m undecided if the call I just got was actually a scam or a real NRA call…
First – I’m on the national do-not-call registry. the NRA is not a 501(c)(3) charity – it is a political lobbying organization. They weren’t taking a poll or any other exemption from the Do Not Call law. They knew my name, so it wasn’t random dialing. I’m on no mailing list that would make them think I’m receptive to their message.
So the script she’s reading starts out asking if I’ve been out recently hunting or target practicing. Ummm… that’s not what the second amendment is for…. and none of your business if I own guns and use them.
Then she went into a scare mongering routine about how Eric Holder is going to take all our guns away. I told her that I keep up on this stuff and I haven’t heard that. She went on to tell me that Eric Holder wrote HR45 – a law to take our guns away. We need to fight to keep our guns to protect our families and our homes. [Does the NRA have a position on Conceal Carry?]
I explained to her that the Attorney General doesn’t create laws – and I asked which Representative authored HR45 and put in into the “hopper”. That question confused her and she didn’t know. She offered me a great discount on a 5 year membership. I declined.
(HR 45 was submitted by Blair Holt [Sounds a lot like Eric Holter!]… it would require a Federal gun ownership card, a training and safety course and notification when cetrain types of guns are sold or transferred. The bill has no co-sponsors)
Oops – Blair Holt is the person who the bill is named after. The Author is Chicago’s former Black Panther Party leader Bobby Rush
