It’s tax day – KRPT-FM in San Antonio changes from Country music to News/Talk (100% syndicated).

The only Premiere programming carried on this station is Dr Laura. San Antonio is the headquarters of Clear Channel. Beck, Rush and Hannity are already on WOAI-AM, the original station that was the starting point for what evolved into Clear Channel.
The station will carry Clark Howard, Near Boortz, Phil Hendrie, Laura Ingraham and Mike Savage in addition to Dr Laura.
CC does this in a few other markets, launching complementary talk stations on less ideal signals to protect their major news/talkers from competition (KFBK/KSTE Sacramento, KNRS-FM/AM Utah, WLW/WKRC Cincinnati, etc.) These were the types of stations that CC used to put Air America on (in fact, KRPT WAS Air America several years back).
Looks like they’re heavy on the TRN and Cox Radio content… I wonder if there’s a network agreement (maybe even an LMA perhaps?) with TRN and/or Cox– I know that’s the direction Phil Boyce has been moving with TRN.
If citadel plays hardball with cc, that works both ways – Mark Levin might lose some cc stations. Boortz and Clark Howard are a little unusual for a CC station
I did a little looking into it– as it turns out, they basically took the lineup from KPWT (106.7) and put it on 92.5. 106.7 is Cox-owned (hence Boortz and Howard) and dumped its talk format back on April 1. Why CC took a format that had basically failed from another company’s station and put it on their own is a little perplexing.
