Want to play with a search engine not controlled by Google’s political censorship? I’m getting the database up to date. My approach is a bit different than Google’s or Yahoo’s. It works on the 80/20 rule… that 80% of what people want to find is contained in 20% of the web… although my guess is it is more like the 99/1 rule when we’re talking about the web. I only index important pages (about 5 million of them), not all 100 guadrillion of them.
If you have a reasonably secure computer and won’t fly into a panic if you accidentally see a naked woman, I’m on Yahoo as findanisp2002 or Google Talk as StreamingRadioGuide. I could use a few more brains poking at it. Since I’m not running on $5 billion of top end servers, be aware from the start that it isn’t yet “fast”, in part because it is doing the spidering and searching on the same computer.
