Aluminum foil from Russia? That’s today’s shopping surprise at Wal*mart. Their house brand mentions that in the small print. Smelting aluminum is very energy intensive – that’s why there was recycling of cans long before any government mandate. Russia has significant energy assets and lots of carbon credits (1990 is the baseline year – exactly when the Soviet Union disintegrated and something like 2/3 of Russian government run industry was abandoned). So look forward to Russian steel and aluminum in the future.
