Arsenic and drinking water – a loose end from the poll questions – if you think putting a filter on your faucet makes a difference, think again. Arsenic is very hard to get out water. Reverse osmosis can remove it, but that’s not what most people have. Arsenic binds to other elements, so there are two different kinds of arsenic – inorganic (more harmful) and organic. The EPA standard of 10 ppb doesn’t make a distinction. Most water from runoff sources has about 2 ppb. Water from wells is much more likely to have higher levels, based mainly on the geology (not that some factory polluted the groundwater)
