Harvest of Shame
This year is the 50th anniversary of Edward R Murrow’s expose of the brutality of evil greedy farm owners and how they exploit migratory farm workers. I was out on Long Island (aka Lon GuyLand) yesterday – my memory is at least part of the documentary dealt with potato farming on Eastern Long Island…
Unrelated to the subject – if you open the down arrow, it is disturbing how much tracking Google has added to Youtube. One can only assume they do the same level of detail to every search on Google….
I use ixquick (http://www.ixquick.com) they claim that they do not record ip addresses and so on. I don’t know if the ‘private browsing’ settings on the Mac makes a difference – I’ve discovered Apple’s PR is diametrically opposed to corporate actions. Everything is recorded by NSA and others anyway.
My concern was not personal – I pretty much assume that everything I do is easily known and tracked. One of those “anonymizer” services during the early days was actually funded by the CIA. When they were caught, the explanation was it was being done as a back door to allow Chinese dissidents to bypass ChiCom censorship…
What is notable is the degree to which YouTube is looking at the group…. tracking reaction – which links generated traffic. Google has enormous insights into human behavior by watching us. Google is Borg – resistance is futile.
” Harvest of Shame?”, how about “Harvest of Left Wing Loons!” Honestly “Art”, I must be missing something here. What’s the point? That was 4 minutes and 2 seconds of my life I wasted.
And, by the way, Edward R Murrow ranks right up there with Katie “Kook” Couric when you look at his journalistic ability. He was just another mouthpiece for socialism.
Just my humble, freedom loving, patriotic, opinion. I figure I should voice it while I still can.
The video was a parody :)
Let me drop a few more bread crumbs to follow – I tend to be way too obtuse. Back in 1960, at least a part the situation (pre Civil Rights era) was that the Long island Potato farmers would drive around Harlem and offer black men a job for the day – bus them out to the Eastern end of Long island (probably 3 hours back in those days)… have them work on the potatoe fields, and then take them back to Harlem.
To the extent the work hasn’t been displaced by better machines, the work that remains is probably being done by immigrants from Mexico (legal or otherwise). When I was on Long Island (I’ve never been there before), almost all of the Long Island AM radio stations are Spanish language. Harlem’s unemployement rate for black men is around 50%….
Al Sharpton was just in Arizona beating his chest about how awful it is that Arizona is trying to keep illegal immigrants out. All across America, immigrants are taking away jobs that formerly were largely done by black americans. There is a huge opportunity here if people get over their racial guilt and speak honestly about race.
Oh Thank God! I knew there were people that far gone on the left but I was hoping that this was not meant as a “REAL” political statement from them.
Some of us rode the short bus to school and sometimes we need just a little help. :)
