Sequestration – that’s one of the main reasons “big oil” is supporting Cap and Trade. They’ll be able to sell on the CO2 market since they use CO2 extensively to inject it into old oil fields to sustain pressure in the oil field. There are probably other reasons – flaring of natural gas in the Middle East is a huge source of CO2 into the atmosphere – making that a cost will encourage more of that gas to be captured and marketed, probably as LNG transported by ship.
