Mea Culpa – I misread the Bloomberg story – the 400,000 troops is the number of Afghani soldiers we want to train, not the number of U.S. troops going to Afghanistan. That’s only about 80,000 for now.

Pop quiz: What was the peak of the number of troops we had in Vietnam and who was President?

To veer in another direction – didn’t we originally train Osama Bin Ladin to fight the USSR? Why the hell do we want 400,000 armed islamic soldiers trained and equipped by us in how to control and subdue a civilian population? The population of Afghanistan is only 32 million people and the life expetency is 44 years.

Somebody has to protect the vital supply of opium!
