Back after 9/11, George Bush sent a demand to the Taliban (then running Afghanistan) to “turn over” Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda. Supposedly, the various Taliban leaders met to decide what to do, and they were in total agreement to turn them over – with one exception – Mullah Omar said no – of course, he was very much involved in al Qaeda.
Reports are surfacing in the past day or two that Mullah Omar was/is in ISI custody in Pakistan since March. Nobody is confirming it directly.
Xinhua, the Chinese news service says that Afghan TV reports that Pakistan media reports he is in ISI custody. The Taliban say Omar is free – the story is just Western disinformation.
My guess is the confusion is over the word “custody”. I fully believe Omar works for the ISI. He was in a meeting with his bosses to discuss the terms of surrender of what they want to demand from Afghanistan when the U.S. and NATO leave.
Excuse me, but what is the ISI?
And sadly, you are probably right about the terms of surrender negotiations.
And on a lighter (and probably sicker) note, we have the Taliban and China debating the term “free”?
