So the 25 year old woman – the youngest of 14 children – who is the mother of four and has a 5th child of a relative in tow…. calls for a cab to take her from a public housing project in New Haven to a public housing project in Ansonia.
When the cab driver shows up and the 6 people are in the back seat, she then demands that the driver give her a “flat fare”. He refuses. That’s when the problems start.
Just as background, the purpose of the “flat fare” is to charge a HIGHER rate to the passenger when the trip is a long trip and goes outside of the local service area (like taking a taxi to an airport in New York). It isn’t a mechansim to haggle over the price.
But, Art … Art … Art! She has a “right” to a taxi ride, doesn’t she? She has a right; she’s entitled. Besides, there may be a stash of Obama Money at her destination. You never know. How can you be so droll?
After a little more poking around about the taxi business in this area – probably not unique to this place – apparently, it is common practice to offer to pay the fare in cash and not log the trip. The obvious purpose of that is to hide the income from the IRS, as well as possibly the car owner, the cab company, and the insurance company. She claims to have never had a driver turn her down before.
What I think triggered this event (if it wasn’t planned ahead of time with the assistance of her lawyer) was the taxi driver who has been driving for around 25 years was the first one she had met who wouldn’t break the law to give her a break. So she turned it into an “I’ll show you whitey racist” thing and the sob story begins.
Except there are no witnesses other than her children. and this isn’t the 1960s…. if you claim a person spit on you, we have this magical thing now called DNA testing which will figure out the source. Kind of like putting a noose on your own door at Columbia. The old tricks don’t work any more.
Breidbart was on Dennis Miller today talking about the Tea Party “racial incident”. He now has 4 videos of the entire event that clearly show nothing happened. The people promulgating the original lie in the “almost dead” network media have no interest in talking about old news.
When people lose trust in their sources of information, civilization becomes very tenuous. People start to believe rumors and what they want to believe.
Typical slum dweller looking for a free ride? Probably. I don’t really care if she gets a ride or not. What I want to know is why does an unmarried woman keep getting paid for having kids? I work full time and I don’t feel like I have taxi money to be moving around. Mother lives in the projects and so does she. WOW!!
Cut off the subsidies and she’ll be too tired to procreate because she’ll have to get a job.
As a parting gift, that lawyer sounds like a real winner. He already has assumed that the cab driver is guilty without any investigation. To top it off, he starts name calling. He must have graduated from a great institution of higher learning. Methinks it may have been the Al Sharpton/ACLU Technical College for Bigots and Racists.
In my view, “slum dwellers” also are slum makers … enabled by government. Necessity is said to be the mother invention, but I agree with you that it also is the father self-sufficiency. “Get a job,” is not a cruel epithet, it is a cheer.
I view the policies of the last 40 or so years to have been an anti-eugenics movement.
A further wrinkle – and I’m sure it’s just a coincidence – is the New Haven city council was voting on whether to start a zipcar program that would allow for cheap short term car rentals – something a taxi company would likely oppose. It passed last night
