Google News improvements

If you have used Google News in the past, the political bias is pretty blatant – but they have partially fixed that. If you discarded using it in the past, give it another look.

If you are logged in to Google (and all that means for your privacy or lack thereof), In Google News you can now downgrade or upgrade stories based on the source. If you think Huffington Post isn’t really a “News Organization”, downgrade it and its stories vanish. If you think the Wall Street Journal is a reliable source, upgrade it and their stories will be heavily featured. While the iPhone app doesn’t support customization, it does honor the filters you set using the regular web pages.

One would hope that at some point Google’s greed will exceed their political agenda and the presentation of news sources will adjust to reflect the consensus of what their readers want to see.

These are improvements to be sure, but I cannot trust Google any further than I can spit the lifeboats of the Lusitania, not only due to Google’s partisan taint, but also because of their long, long noses stuck into my privacy. Use Google Scraper … you can Google it. Ahem.

Being in the IT field. I constantly hear very negative things about Google and their tendancy to probe your privacy.
But I only use them to search for products.
I’ve never read any opinions from them, so I can’t speak to their politcal slant.
    Are they liberal/progressive? Or conservative?
One thing we do know is they are greedy.

As the Google founders get richer and they lose more and more of their income to the government, maybe they’ll wake up.

The bias in Google News is really more about the bias of the News Media in general. Credible Conservative leaning news sources are few and far between. Journalists with those kinds of instincts are weeded out at journalism schools long before they reach the point of getting a job (or becoming a professor). The roots of Progressive politics are very deep.
