Cleaning up some mess

If you happen to be interested in manicuring a portion of the schedules of the 8300+ stations that are streaming, It was tedious and I hope the changes this morning simplify that.

There was kind of a catch-22 – if you bring up the stations by genre page:

you will see stations for which there isn’t a “current program”.  That can be for two different reasons – either nothing has ever been entered, or something used to be there but expired.

The catch-22 was it wouldn’t let you “ID” the show until you listen to the station, and if you listen to the station, it wouldn’t let you ID the show you heard.

The streamlining is that now when you click on ID this show, and you had not previously listened to the stream, it will automatically start a test of the stream, and you can ID the show you heard after the time is up.

So let’s say you’re a Ben Maller fan, the overnight guy on Fox Sports and wanted to load up the schedule with 150 stations playing Ben Maller…  you could pull up the All Sports Stations page while Ben Maller is on the air (it helps to have a reference station playing that you know is Ben Maller)….  and go down each station and see if that station is playing Ben Maller and if so, ID the stream.   Have I said Ben Maller enough times yet?

Or maybe you have a hankering to ID the 355 Public Radio stations all streaming the BBC at 2 AM…   Or the Country music stations playing Moby in the Morning…  or the stations carrying Scott Shannon’s True Oldies…

Or not.   It’s up to you :)

If there is some syndicated show you really want to work on and it isn’t in the database, drop me an email with the program’s URL so you can become an ID maniac.   Would it help if I hand out “badges”? :)
