Fred Thompson’s last week

Former Senator Fred Thompson slipped in that “this is my last week on the radio” on today’s show.

Westwood One is bringing a fellow named Doug Urbanski next week which will replace Mr Thompson.   His show never had a chance.    It’s a classic case of shoving a microphone in front of a person who has never worked in radio, but thinks he knows how it works.   His wife dominating the show also was not helpful.

Fred was fine as a short-form commentator during his time at ABC– but throwing him in as a long-form talk host to replace Bill O’Reilly was a recipe for disaster. He just didn’t have the style that fit well with a two-hour show; he is far better at one-liners and quips than trying to sustain a monologue for an extended time.

He worked radio llike he worked his campaign.
I actually liked Gerry more than Fred, but then I didn’t listened to it more than 3 or 4 times.
As a fellow TN resident, I like Fred a lot – but he just doesn’t have the drive to either run or learn radio.
I wish he’d get back into TV, but probably has burned all his bridges in Holliberalwood.
