ARNN update

Talk Radio Network’s serious competitor to NPR’s news broadcasts goes live on Monday after an exhaustive week of planning, as I passed along a few days ago.    The 3 hour news show will be “non-partisan” so as to not scare away national advertisers.

Well, I’ve found a web site for it, and a name

America’s Radio News Network

In addition to the fact they have not announced who the co-hosts will be (from Noon-3PM ET), there are two curious things on the web site:

– there will be a streaming live link (not active yet) offering web listeners the ability to listen to the show, bypassing the affiliates
– across the top is a Widget that is scrolling news headlines from Fox News….

If you hurry fast, you can reserve this program for your area!

** more details **

Mark Masters did a puff piece interview with rbr.com  [Here] (the site is plastered with ads for the show)

The description is that the show will be “for the ADD generation”, a fast paced runaway freight train targeted to the under 50 audience – it will be objective, unlike that *phooey* political personality radio.   You can fire your entire news room and bump up your station’s bottom line.   It will have co-anchors, not co-hosts.

Let’s see, if you take politics out of news, that leaves….   Hollywood!  and Sports!  and Sex!

Masters’ move so foundationally contradicts the history of TRN and his own rationale for beginning the network that I predict the worst. Giving up on “partisan”, hot opinion radio like a coward is so reprehensible to a local TRN listener that I once again feel betrayed by TRN — being built up just to be let down. I sincerely hope TRN talk show hosts can find another syndicator because they’re all excellent commentators. MM can pull the radio rug out of someone else’s feet – I won’t listen to his pablum radio news melba toast.

I can’t imagine this lasting very long.

The most shocking thing to me is Phil Boyce. There is no way this “thing” is going to revolutionize radio for decades to come. It’s like he is making it so far “over the top” that anyone in the business will know he doesn’t believe it.

On a totally unrelated note, a new weekend show appeared in the weekends in the last month or so. Roy Masters is hosting a show called “Finding God in Physics”. Even though I won the Werner Von Braun physics award in college, I have a little trouble following it. Roy has discovered that gravity is a “Push force”, not a “pull force”. We don’t stick to the spinning planet because our mass is pulled toward the planet, but because mass has negative gravity and the force of the Universe is pushing us toward the lack of gravity in the space occupied by the matter.

Therefore, that proves that God exists.

Push as opposed to pull? Amazing. I like thinking outside the box, but that one seems to be a cop out. String theory, anyone? Thank you, Art. Enlightening as always!

It reminds me of a long discussion on Usenet about 15 years ago where someone put forth the idea that light bulbs were “darkness suckers” – that rather than being a source of light, they were consumers of darkness. It was interesting to read, since it should be trivial to disprove, but seemed to give a lot of “scientists” a lot of difficulty.

Half an hour until show time. The link on the web site is not present yet, there is nothing on the Twitter Feed or Facebook page. No announcement of any affiliates. It’s great when a plan comes together!

    ARNN has an affiliate!!!

WBCF-AM in Florence, Alabama It’s a 1kw Class “C” (small) AM station – it had been carrying Fred Thompson, and already carried the morning news from TRN.
