In the course of testing, I heard a news report that South Dakota is considering a law requiring all citizens to own a gun (unless barred by law).
This is probably in part an oblique ploy related to the mandate that forces people to buy health insurance under Obamacare.
One difference is this is a proposed State law (some cities have tried the same thing), not a Federal Law.
Even though it is not intended to pass, you never know 8^P…
Like all government laws, you need to ask the question “what’s the “or else”?” let’s say this law passed by some accident.
- What is the penalty for not owning a gun?
- If you are convicted of not having a gun, does that prohibit you from owning a gun in the future?
- How does the State know if you own a gun to comply with the law – would there be mandatory registration of guns?
- Could a law enforcement person come to your house and made a demand to see your gun without a search warrant?
Be careful what you ask for.
On the other hand, I would fully support requiring all publicly funded schools to offer gun safety training classes.
Woodstock Ga currently has a law requires every one to own a gun.
“What is the penalty for not owning a gun?”
You have to buy ammunitin for everybody else.
The originator was Kennesaw, Georgia… Every Homeowner will own a Firearm. Noone has ever said “OFFICIALLY” what the penalties are… but that town about 3 or 4 months ago, had it’s first Murder in YEARS. their crime statistics usually fall within the Margin of error of some larger cities. It seems to work for them.
Does this law prescribe the type of guns to be owned, or would a grease gun fill the bill? Halt, or I’ll fill ya full of white molly!
