According to media reports the US has thus far launched 114 Tomahawk cruise missiles at targets in Libya. If the sometimes reliable figures on Wikipedia are correct, each Tomahawk costs $569,000. Therefore “in this economy” the President just spent approximately $65 million blowing up things in North Africa. I wonder if Bush would get a pass from the media in such a situation? (i.e. “think about how many NEA teachers jobs could be saved with that money!”).

Of course, the $65 million doesn’t include the costs of our ships and subs that have moved to the area, and the drones and spy satellites that CBS News reports will be used to measure the effectiveness of the missile attacks on their targets.

I wonder what the vacation in Rio is costing the taxpayers this weekend? According to the President, he is in Latin America to create jobs for Americans (?)

I read reports that all of the President’s schedule was canceled after large crowds of Brazilians protested against his visit.

My sense is Qaddafi’s method is to use asymmetrical warfare tactics at this point – as the Asian martial arts like to say – use your enemy’s strength against them. And in a proportional response – up until now, he has made no overt or covert actions against the supporters of the U.N. Action. Now that first blood has been drawn, I doubt anything is off the table.

If you have a visit scheduled to France or England, it might be wise to stay out of Europe for a while.
