Glenn Beck Counts – Part 1

http://mediamatters.org/blog/201103310020#1269181

Since Glenn Beck has deleted the evidence, this is what I have to start with.  I’m probably the single most qualified person in America to do this analysis, other than the people Media Matters got raw data from.   Just because a station is in the list doesn’t mean it carries the show – as the regular testers here know all too well.

Count of total Beck affiliates:    438 per Premiere’s database
Duplicates (due to station being listed in more than one state):  9

Unique affiliates:   429
Number that carry show M-F:   185     Sat only: 165:   Sun only: 79
Number that carry show M-F for 3 hrs/day:  121

The MM list contains many stations that say Sat or Sun, but also carry the show Mon-Fri.    Since I don’t have the original list, I don’t know if that was Premiere’s doing or the processing by the Media Matters fanboy

    Art,

#39 has KGLO playing Beck from 5pm to 8am. That seems like a whole lot of Beck…

    or a typo. :p

    Nice work.

The days/times is a direct import – I didn’t change anything. I did run out of time before my daily sleep cycle. I’ll resume the verification process now. I’ll probably have most of it settled by Monday.

The list is more accurate than I expected – perhaps they anticipated that it would be scrutinized. I suspect the “real” number is in between 400 and 430. Counting of simulcasts (or not) may be the difference.

For the stations that don’t have a web site, that might mean calling them on the phone :)

A good example of how it is hard to pin down this list. The station only streams in the morning, and does not have a station schedule on the web site. If it had a schedule, and it didn’t show Beck, I could conclude it isn’t an affiliate. Since it doesn’t stream when his show is supposed to be on, I can’t confirm that either.

The station looks to be very heavy on local sports. My best guess is they use Beck reruns as filler during the rare times there is no sports to broadcast. Rural Iowa is pretty quiet at 2 AM.

I’m not sure if this is more or less important than The Great Dying extinction, the Holocaust, and the Heartbreak of Psoriasis. Just say’n.
