John Batchelor program… here is this weekend’s schedule:
http://johnbatchelorshow.com/schedules/2009/10/saturday-and-sunday-24-and-25-october/
Pretty clear the show IS prerecorded, or at least most of it, given that each segment is listed with guests and duration and specifics of what they talked about….
The “roundtable” segment did not match the description, and discussed events this weekend – I suspect John copies the prior week’s info forward and the topical/live segments are updated after the fact… Malcolm Hoenlein’s segment also seemed live or at least taped today.
That also explains why John has never taken phone calls on his show :)
Could you email Batchelor and ask him for the details of how he does the show? Let him answer here for all the fans of the show to read? I’m still a regular listener on Sunday nights because of the quality of the guests, even if the interviews are pre-recorded (although of course I’d prefer live.) But I do understand the people who do the show are giving up weekend time (Sunday nights) to participate so I guess their schedules/personal convenience is a factor in it all.
I’m still in “detective” mode. I knew for a fact that part of it was recorded, because he would sometimes re-use a segment from WABC later in the evening on KABC, since nobody in New York listens to a radio station in California… :)
Laura Ingraham always used to trip me up on this same thing…. her show was carried on WELI (in New Haven, CT) and sounded like it was “live” in the evening, but it was a 9-noon show. I think this might be a technique where you have a recorded segment, but you do a “live” introduction…. setting up the segment to sound live, but all the references to breaking events are done by John.
I doubt John is going to turn over the ingredients to his secret sauce.
Ingredients to his secret sauce? Great way of putting it. Thanks, Fred, for the laugh.
The 9:20 segment about McMansions aired at 10:50, so there appears to be some flexibility to the schedule…
