Anyone still interested in testing with Google Chrome, but don’t want to do a full installation? You may want to try the portable version:
http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/google_chrome_portable
Just because it’s labeled as “portable” doesn’t mean that it must be installed on a flash drive or such and an advantage of portable applications on the hard drive is that there is no integration into the operating system (registry entries, etc. in Windows.)
Upgrades to portable apps may be a little problematic, but that’s no big deal with RSS subscriptions to good software sites such as freewarefiles, filehippo and portableapps.com
For the record, I still recommend ChromePlus :)
PS: this post made with Chrome Portable
I just installed Chrome on my ancient Compaq laptop, only because an “experienced” user reported a problem with a stream. It turns out that after installation, using an .m3u link results in a “download” of a file that appears at the bottom of the window, but otherwise nothing happens.. You have to notice the download and right click to tell it to automatically launch files of that type in the future…
Part of the reason you find me ornery on the topic of non-IE browsers is I end up dealing with product support issues when unsophisticated users follow the herd to try the latest thing – which assumes that everyone can solve their own problems. Most of the world does not read nor would understand slashdot…. AOL was successful for a reason (to a point).
