The dreams of the Press and Hugo Chavez are going up in smoke… it takes time to move tanks and infantry 500 miles in the desert. Sunday was a very bad day for the “rebels”. Untrained volunteers on a pickup truck with a machine gun are no match for MIG fighters and Tanks.
The only real question left is what the people in Benghazi are going to do (and how much Gadaffi wants to kill them). One account has already surfaced confirming my hunch – among those men saying “Hey, let’s all hop in our trucks and head West and kill Qadaffi” were loyal government soldiers. It was a trap all along to lure the most aggressive (or reckless) men to leave the relative safety of the city so they wouldn’t be mistaken as “unarmed civilians”.
“When you decide to hop on a bus, make sure you know who is driving and where the bus is going”
The government controls the water, access to the port, the roads, the natural gas and oil pipelines, the supply of food, and surely still a few loyal military people inside the city that they’re in touch with. Time for France to offer the “provisional government” safe haven and admit what a boneheaded idea it was. Benghazi is a very nice city – it would be a shame to reduce it to rubble.
Sorry BBC, maybe next time. You guys still have a Queen, don’t you?
I figure it is almost all over forthe “rebels”. The news media is calling it a stallmate, so you can figure they have just about kicked their ass.
Hey Barry Osama – next time you want to topple a government for your Iranian friends, you may want to skip the “study the issues” phase.
Things happen fast on the ground. And really fast in the air.
Experienced military men who aren’t just sucking up would be able to tell you.
