What is the current web site for KTPA-AM in Prescott Arkansas?
The SRGUIDE Database says this page
http://www.supercountry105.com/kxar/index.htm
The data says this station is a simulcast of KXAR-AM – the above link suggests that is true (or at least was at one time). KTPA is a daytime only AM station, class D – which is a marker that this is a very insignificant station. Clicking ignore and moving on is a very viable choice here. Nobody really cares
But hold the phone – G Gordon Liddy [‘s show] is dead and Mike Huckabee is gone from radio (thank God!), and the picture of Shaun [sic] Hannity is a very very old, even by radio standards. The probability just zoomed up this is no longer accurate.
The domain for this webpage is supercountry105.com, an FM station playing country music – and the owners were too cheap to get a separate domain for their AM station. So there are two basic likely outcomes – either this still is the best page and the radio station owners don’t give a damn about their 2 AM stations – or more likely the page has moved, which may tell us whether the simulcast is still in effect if we can find it.
I never accept third-party sources like Wikipedia, ooTunes, Radio Locator or TuneIn as authoritative – I may follow their links to see if I can confirm a primary source. Wikipedia has no article for the station. Looking on the history link on the station editor tells me that at least at the end of last year, the station was silent according to the FCC. Clicking the FCC link on the station editor and looking at the recent applications shows no BSTA stay silent request, and no transfer of ownership or control. The station is probably still owned by the same owners. The correspondence link shows the silent notification for last year – the requests indicates that they are having transmitter problems and can’t get spare parts.
Clicking on the station editor map link, radio locator says there is no website.
Prescott Arkansas is the county seat of Nevada County Arkansas. It has a population of less than 4000 people. You can see this radio station is pretty nonviable by any reasonable criteria – unless you happen to be one of those 4000 people.
TuneIn says this is a gospel radio station, not a news talk simulcast, but has no link to the station to confirm if that’s true. Streema.com Repeats the same information, but with no attributable source – echo echo echo.
Doing google search #4 from the station editor quickly surfaces a new domain – KTPA1370.com. That website clearly identifies itself as belonging to Newport broadcasting, which is the registered owner of the license. It has the 2012 EEOC report, and still indicates that this is a news talk simulcast – so I conclude that TuneIn’s information is wrong, and Radio locators information is incomplete. This website still shows Mike Huckabee however, but no Liddy.
Radiostation.org has no website but also states that they are carrying “solid gospel” – that is a syndicated music format. Is it true? Facebook has a webpage that suggests that – but it’s an automatically generated webpage not claimed by the station owners. More echoe echo. BillSparks.org shows the gospel station was added a very long time ago under a different station owner. The most recent indication that it carries a gospel format is from 2005.
Conclusion: the station is still a news talk simulcast according to a primary source website maintained by the owners of the FCC license. I can find no information that contradicts that, so I will update the URL to point to the new website and mark it as complete. It’s the station is actually something else, the owner of the radio station needs to communicate that. That’s the best I can do.
The point of this exercise – and hopefully you read to the end – is why I NEVER rely on third-party sources alone. This website has credibility because of my independent research, and not just scraping data from other websites and echoing mistakes.
It’s worth pointing out that this AM simulcast streams only local sporting events – since this is a streaming radio guide and the station doesn’t stream, that makes it even less important. The problem is that until you find a real website, you don’t know for a fact that the station didn’t start streaming in the past few years.
Programming schedules have the same issue – while I don’t list infomercials, I need to identify them so I can see which stations might have some real programming on them without constantly rechecking the same station to find out if it still has the same infomercial.
As an example of the opposite caramel WKXO-AM in Kentucky was indicated as part of a news talk simulcast, but is in fact a standalone gospel station
http://www.wkxoam.com
the footer of the Page indicates as belonging to the FCC licensed owner of the station and the station is streaming. Simulcasts are probably the most problematic thing to find the truth on.
Not to quibble, but G Gordon Liddy is still very much alive, I assume you were simply referring to his radio show as being ‘dead’?
You’re my official fact checker. His wife is dead, and his show is dead but he appears to be alive. Upon consulting my synapses, I remember him saying that he would do the show up until the day he died. He changed his mind.
