In typical Washington fashion, the House engaged in two faced legislation about Libya on Friday.
Dennis Kucinich drafted a strong (non-binding) resolution that would strongly urge! President Obama to stop using the U.S. Military in support of the destruction of the government of Libya.
Fearing that the resolution might actually pass – and send a message of “disunity” to England and France, Boener created a watered down alternative. This creates the situation where legislators can both say they voted for and against the same issue. Boener’s just demands that President explain to the House what he is doing. (what’s the “or else”?)
The Boener resolution drawing a line in the sand and telling Obama not to cross it passed 268-145.
The stronger Kucinich resolution failed 148-265 – but 87 Republicans voted with Kucinich, and only 61 Democrats.
So instead of a clear message of who is for an who is against – and forcing Democrats to choose between supporting President Obama’s war or voting against the President, Mr Boener let President Obama and the Democrats off the hook.
Interesting how this whole thing is supposed to be about “Democracy” in the Middle East, yet Mr Boener is running the country based on what the leaders of other countries want us to do, not what the people want.
