If memory serves – Lady Gaga is actually a classically trained singer. I don’t know if she was at Julliard, but supposedly she is quite good at her craft. I could live without the blue hair and 6″ eyelashes, but then I am not in her chosen demographic at all.
Back in our day, the Monkees started as a spoof to show just how far you could go with hyping people with no musical training or skill, using studio musicians, lip syncing, promotion and the hypnotic effect of TV.
It was so successful they ended up becoming what it is they were making fun of. Groupies can cause that.
