The only reason I know there is a Democratic Party “debate” Saturday night (9 PM Eastern) is that I listened to Rush briefly on Friday and he mentioned how angry Sanders is that the debate is airing at a time few people watch TV
The Democratic Presidential selection process has very little to do with going to the polls. The oligarchs of the party and special interest groups like the SEIU control “superdelegate” votes that will choose the candidate. That is why the Democrat party is not “democratic”.
Unless Hilllary withdraws, has more fainting spells or is sitting in a jail cell, she will be the candidate
The Democrats made a strategic blunder in the 1960s that fed the polarization of the two parties. The delegate selection process at the party convention was modified to “reward” states that “delivered” the vote in the preceding election. The error was this creates a positive feedback loop. They didn’t factor in “but what if our candidate loses?”
So when George Wallace drew votes away from Hubert Humphrey in 1968 and Humphrey lost to Nixon, the Conservative Democrats from the South lost clout because their states were disloyal. That set up the party to become even more extreme, selecting George McGovern in 1972, who lost every state except Massachusetts to Richard Nixon.
Dixie had been solidly Democratic since the end of Reconstruction, when the Republicans brought their carpetbags below the Mason Dixon line to “fix” the South. Jim Crow laws, segregation of lunch counters, putting blacks at the back of the bus, using fire hoses and dogs to attack Civil Rights workers was the Southern Democratic Party of the 1969s. Martin Luther King, Jr was a Republican.
The Democrats who won since (other than the current president) have been a peanut farmer from Georgia and the governor of Arkansas.
The Democratic infomercial will air on CBS radio and TV (shocking!). The three candidates will have been pre-interviewed so that they have time to prepare answers to the softballs they will be asked. CBS has no interest in Sanders getting the nomination
CBS is giving Hillary a hard time.
She already blamed George Bush once…
The problem with Sanders is he comes across as a tired old man, even if you think he is right.
O’Malley has no chance.
Donald Trump is smiling tonight. France is insulted that he pointed out the attackers in Paris had 10 minutes to kill unchallenged because of gun control.
Hillary didn’t take the bait of the racist term “Obamacare”. Bernie is doing well on his Socialist turf
O’Malley zoomed into the Twitter lead by zinging Trump. O’Malley goofed at the end of hour one, assuming that the all economists work for Wall Street
Hour One I award to Hillary.
Bernie: “The business model of Wall Street is fraud”
Nobody is going to point out her daughter’s connection to Wall Street
CBS is using TV magic to marginalize O’Malley – showing him from a camera behind the moderator
The “circus barker” tweets that this debate is a circus
I’m suffering from Pseudo Bulbar Affect
Hillary’s eyes say “I’m a liar”
The Circus Barker Donald Trump won the second hour.
Did you hear the muted laughter when Hillary said that her integrity was being impugned? She then said “yes, yes” to indicate she has integrity. The whole thing was on the vein of Ringling Bros…
And Trump is the barker.
[enter conspiracy mode]
I’ve already said I believe Trump’s motivation is to disrupt the Republicans so Hillary wins. The Democrats are playing chess – the Republicans aren’t even playing checkers – they are playing tiddly winks, randomly hoping their wink lands in the bowl.
O’Malley played his role perfectly. His remark that Trump is a circus barker drew a huge response from Twitter. O’Malley pointed at the target. Republicans will respond by pushing Trump up another 10 points, causing most of the others to drop out. Once Bernie is gone and O’Malley leaves, Trump can find some reason to just quit. Anyone remember why Perot quit his campaign? With most of the field gone, Republicans will likely have to choose someone with no chance of winning.
Returning you back now to non-conspiracy mode
Of course. Daddy Bush was trying to sabbotage Perrot’s daughter’s wedding.
Anyone remember Barbara Honegger’s documentation on what daddy Bush had subbotaged for the 1980 election?
A lot of Trump supporters may not be old enough or were politically active enough in 1992 to remember.
For similar reasons, Republicans saying “I’m more like Ronald Reagan” is a big mistake. Your typical “Reagan Democrat” is in his 70s+, living on Social Security, Medicare and Food Stamps. Socialism works for them. Nobody younger than about 35 even remembers Reagan, and those that do know that none of the candidates remotely resemble Reagan
I totally agree with you that Trump’s motivation is to disrupt the Republicans so Hillary wins. I have said this from the beginning!!
As a bonus, Trump can recast Republicans as Hispanic haters – and turn Texas and Florida permanently Democratic.
