The San Bernadino trap

Alex Jones stepped right into it, and I doubt he was the only one. “And Barack Obama let him into the country…”

It is tempting to connect Syed Farook to the Syrian immigration debate. The problem is bigger than that. Syed Farook was born in the United States and lived his entire life in the United States. He was born in 1987 in Cook County, Illinois. As a “natural born” US Citizen, he has an absolute right to marry a non-citizen and bring her to the United States as soon as the State Department determines it is not a sham marriage to circumvent immigration law.

The irony of Ted Cruz demanding the immigration records of Syed Farook is rich irony. Cruz was born in Canada, the son of a Cuban father and an American mother living in Canada.

Don’t shoot me, but I don’t find any irony. I think someone having lived the experience is knowledgeable in that area. I believe it won’t be long before we have evidence of the ties to terrorism and Islam. They may say “radicalized” but that is a voluntary process. I think his breadcrumbs from recent travel and conversations (phone, twitter, email) will provide a clearer picture than his immigration history (or that of his parents).

I think you’re right. My suspicion (why I want to see info on the victims) is he was working inside a highly political union work environment. He likely had lots of coworkers that perceived him as a white male worthy of contempt. I have assumed (you know what happens!) that since he was born in the US and attended public high school, he grew up in the US. It sounds like his father lived in Niles, IL and his mom moved to California.

If the victims were predominantly women, blacks or his supervisors, we’ll get a firmer motive. Clearly this was not a spur of the moment idea. Wearing GoPro cameras suggests something akin to the “I killed the most people ever!” Competition going on among young men. A big difference is he had a wife and a six month old child. That usually calms down angry young men.

This would have been probably the only time all of his coworkers would be in the same room at the same time. The party was held in the same room last year, so he knew the layout. He probably went in initially to make sure his primary targets were at the party. You don’t want to show up with an AK47 to kill your boss only to find out he isn’t there!

Apparently, climate change has radicalized Mr. Farook into committing workplace violence. Or… it could have been the party offended him. I am sure this is just a spontaneous reaction to his pain and suffering caused by having to attend a Christmas celebration.

I just wonder what his motive was.

EH workers are out in the field most of the time. When I worked with them it was tossed around that they did not need individual desks because they were out in the field so much(or that they should be encouraged to be out there).

Sounds right to me. One story mentioned he shared a cube at work.

So I wake up to read that the Senate voted to “repeal” Obamacare. Since you know my situation and I know you have interest in the topic….

If President Obama wanted to ensure 50 years of Democratic Party rule, he should call their bluff and sign the repeal.

A brief history of my opinions:
      – the best way Republicans could destroy Obamacare is to do nothing and let reality work out the demise
      – a person in my situation losing individual private pay coverage replaced by ACA – reckless conduct by Republicans could turn me against them
      – Obama capitulating to delaying employer mandates took away any chance of being actuarially sound

So what I read was the Senate Bill is even harsher than the House Version
      – repeal of all taxes and penalties
      – termination of all subsidy payments
      – end to expansion of Medicaid
      – end of the national exchange
      – end of covering the actuarial shortfall by the insurance companies

My prediction had been that Obamacare would end in a crisis in February because of extremely low reenrollment rates because of the 50%+ premium increases

The things I haven’t seen on the repeal list
      – no surcharge for pre existing conditions
      – no surcharge for women
      – 3x premium limit for old people

With those as the rules, everyone will withdraw from individual coverage. At least in Illinois, the state HIPAA plan did not close, even though the ACA effectively killed what they did. Maybe they had a crystal ball. I’m pretty sure North Carolina had/has a similar plan. If it ends up being $1,500 a month for a bronze level plan, I’ll probably “go naked” and instead spend money on a lawyer to negotiate any obscene hospital bill I might generate.

So if I pay $1,044 a month for next year, I can live with that, for now. The waiting rooms at the clinic will probably be shorter.

      Thoughts? Opinions?

    Here we go
    http://abcnews.go.com/Health/san-bernardino-shooting-victim-identified-health-department-employee/story?id=35558921

12 of the 14 killed were county employees. It’s a logical conclusion the shooting was focused on the people in the room. Did he hate the gay guy? The woman from Iraq? Most of the dead are older white men with beards.

He was totally not on the radar of any “intelligence” agency. No prior criminal history or contacts, no statements that alarmed people, no history of mental illness. The only way he is not going to have a right to own the guns is if nobody does.

  6. Fred Stiening says:

If you believe InfoWars (and why wouldn’t you!), the primary target of the shooter was a Jewish Christian man who had been arguing with him about ISIL the past few days. The dead man’s “friend” heard the shooter threaten to “Kill all the Jews and Christians”, but did not apparently report it. The woman from Iran was likely another on the target list. Be careful before you start wanting to ban refugees.

Here is a more detailed profile of the 14 dead in San Bernardino

One of the non-employees killed ran the coffee shop where the meeting was being held.

Several reputable sources say the same group of people used the same room a year ago for training about mass shootings. Some times that training includes a simulated attack for the emotional angle. I wonder if that training caused people to freeze. Syed undoubtedly learned what not to do as the attacker.

I don’t understand why food inspectors would need that training. They are rarely all together in one place
