I wonder if technology has an impact in Abbatoirs? Modern civilization keeps these things under the covers – rightly so.
We are killing our children living with fear of “germs”.
On a YouTube video making frozen pizzas in a factory, children are freaked out that a woman touches the raw dough with her hands one time. This rection is extremely common in YouTube videos, and people’s impressions of workers and restaurants being unsafe if the workers are not wearing gloves.
Tests are confirming that children are becoming allergic to peanuts because their parents avoided feeding them peanuts as a young child, and they never developed the resistance to them. Fear of gluten similarly is going to create a generation of people with Crohn’s disease who would not otherwise have had it.
Because of the government’s “food safety” laws, food is increasingly sterile and inert. Bacteria inside your body are essential to your health. Vitamin B12 is produced by bacteria, not the products that contain the bacteria.
Meanwhile, an American pistachio grower somehow got salmonella in their nuts, Starbucks has two more recalls and another Chiptoles is closed. Meanwhile, this family drags out there rendering pot that has been sitting around for a year, and explaining you know the process is over when you can stick your arm into the melted fat without getting burned.
Fred – great points. We do ourselves a disservice when we hide from the reality of survival and life. I won’t likely think the same way about bacon again, but then that applies for hamburgers, chicken and all the rest.
Just don’t become a vegetarian 😉
My gym teacher in grade school who was a large healthy man at one point discussed with us how he had worked in a slaughterhouse in Pittsburgh and what a horrible job it was. His point was mainly to encourage us to work hard in school so we didn’t end up in that situation.
Since the Democratics’ war on Tobacco, the agricultural business turned big time to raising pigs. Because there are jobs even tarheels won’t do, large numbers of Mexicans were imported to staff the slaughterhouses. It has made a very profound change on the politics of North Carolina, and that will be a major reason for Trump’s victory here next Tuesday.
Great video. Nothing wrong with using nature with respect and thankfulness. I’d much rather hang out with those salt of the earth folks than any vegan animal-rights self-loathing types.
I bet the pork tastes great!
A guy I worked with at Oldsmobile had a whole pig roast at his house. I still remember it.
US laws require all commercial pork to be frozen for a month to kill any (non-existent) worms. Worms are a big problem in China were pigs eat sewage from their human hosts then the humans eat the pigs. That cycle doesn’t exist in the US. The only cases we get are people who picked up the disease in Asia. Since municipal sewer systems don’t feed their output to pig farms, transmission is impossible. A few cases are tracked back to people harvesting wild animals and not cooking the meat well enough.
My little pop quiz question was “how did they pay the farmer for the pigs?”
If you enjoyed that, Washington Post has a story on the Sweeteater Rattlesnake roundup
