I-85 collapse in Atlanta

Fire of undetermined cause started around 6 PM and within two hours northbound bridge collapsed.

    It turns out what is under the bridge is a storage area for Georgia Department of Transportation, and the GDOT incident response headquarters.

    Of course GDOT has no idea what caused the fire. There is a city fire station about two blocks away.

    It will take several months to reconstruct the bridges. This was not a case of any kind of neglect of infrastructure. The bridge was well maintained and in good condition.

    I guess steel can “melt” without even needing jet fuel.
