Is today April 1st?

It is now illegal in Missouri for a teacher and their current or past students to be friends on facebook, according to that news.

The reason?   A teacher might “molest” one of their students.

Where were the teacher unions?

If I am not mistaken, Is not everything you post on Facebook, open to public view ? Is Missouri turning into a bunch of idiotic liberals like California ? I have not seen anything in facebook that cannot be seen by someone else . So how the hell is a teacher going to “molest” a former or present student ? I think California is rubbing off onto Missouri..

Well, Facebook has the ability to limit who sees messages, as well as it has a chat feature.

What the law says is slightly different than the story which is paraphrasing what PC world reported.

The essence of the law is that school districts need to draft a policy to tell their teachers that they may not have contact with students or former students on the internet unless it is through a school run web site in which both the school administrators and the parents have the ability to see what they’re talking about.

The “former student” part is spelled out in the law – it’s not as broad as it sounds, but it is also broader 🙂 A former student is someone who used to attend the school where the teacher teaches, is younger than 18 and no longer attends the school. So there is no problem with you being friends with your 3rd grade teacher when you’re in your 30s – however, you’ll notice it doesn’t require that the student actually had a class with the teacher – just that the student attended the school.

It would be an interesting study to see how many marriages are between teachers and their former students….

So who is watching out what the administrators are saying in private chat? and the janitor?

And yet, it is perfectly fine to molest their minds in the classroom.

    Priceless.
