Republicans name their members to the Super Committee

The fact that the head of the House Budget Committee (Paul Ryan) is not on the committee tells you most of what you need to know.

House:
Dave Camp(MI)
Fred Upton (MI) – Mr Light Bulb Ban
Jeb Hensarling(tx) – Tea Party favorite

Senate:
Kyle (AZ) – not running for reelection
Pat Toomey(PA)
Rob Portman(OH)

The remaining U.S. taxpayers (fewer and fewer every day) are not impressed. The predictable appointment of these RINOs makes it a “Central Committee” instead of a “Super Committee”.

    • Art Stone says:

You know all 6 Democrats are going to stand in lockstep. The Commitee is only as weak as the Weakest Republican. One doesn’t become Chairman of Ways & Means because they want to shrink the role of the Federal Government.

      • Parrott says:

        >”all 6 Democrats are going to stand in lockstep.”

Yeah you know it. ‘John Kerry’ the man is dead from the neck up due to botox injections, and he is on the super-commitee. They will just want to raise taxes and the Repubs will compromise and give in.
Why didn’t the Repubs put the “Paul” boys(Ron & Rand) on there? that could mix it up a bit. You need a wild card.

  2. This former copy editor obsessively points out that both Camp and Upton represent Michigan districts.

    • Art Stone says:

Well, I was doing that fast – not sure why I thought Camp was from TX…

So, we have two Congress people from a state that has been shedding population and business like crazy (I lived Michigan in the 1980s&90s)… The 2010 election saw Republicans take control of the state. At least when I lived there, the State Government was controlled by the Teacher Unions and the Insurance companies…. and the 10% of the population that lives in the City of Detroit sponging off the government was usually the deciding factor in state wide elections.

I have little hope this SuperCommittee will arrive at anything useful. The US military loves to plan… I’m pretty certain they’re working on a plan of how to deal with the Committee failing and being hit with the automatic reduction. I’ve read that some parts of the military have stopped recruiting. Will the forces inside the government just move people outside the military budget? (like into the CIA as “contractors”?)

    • Art Stone says:

If you visit Camp’s web site, the left most menu item is: Constituent Service… under that menu item, he lists:

      Flag Requests
Adacemy Requests (Want your son to go to West Point?)
      Request of Congressional Recognition
      Federal Grant Funds
      Help with Federal Agency
      Federal Job Postings…

      blah blah blah

Something tells me he isn’t going to vote to stop handing out free flags.

He’s chairman of the Ways and Means committee – arguably the most powerful committee in the House. His district has nothing in it except deer – it’s all rural central Michigan – it doesn’t include Lansing, Flint, Bay City and carefully avoids Saginaw. He’s from Midland, Michigan which screams one thing – “Dow Chemical”

“His district has nothing in it except deer…”

        Ha ha! LOL

That’s how they all vote anyway… like deer in the headlights.

Been back here (northern Lake Huron) for two years. As far as I can tell, the republican shift is mostly a lot of window dressing.

The only ‘conservative’ areas I have found are around Grand Rapids (the one city actually moving forward) and in the U.P. which has been left in a state of limbo for at least 30+ years.

Yoopers now hold their own ‘State Fair’ in Iron Mountain. 😉

By and large, union mentality still reigns supreme in lower MI, along with the liberals around MSU/UM in TC, Petoskey, etc.
