Gold vs Platinum

Sometimes you go looking for one thing and find something entirely different:

This is a chart comparing the price of gold to the price of platinum since the beginning of 2008. You’ll notice the two lines cross as the very end (yesterday).

What I didn’t know was that just prior to the 2008 financial panic, there was a huge bubble collapse in Platinum. Bernanke became chairman of the Fed in 2006 and was pumping close to infinite money into the world’s markets to stimulate the economy and apparently a lot of that money was winding up in a platinum bubble. The drop starts about when Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers imploded.
