Not Wichita, but Connecticut….
It’s Thursday- Big Storm Irene came through Sunday morning, and several hundred thousand whiners who choose to live out the woods and would file a lawsuit to stop a tree next to a power line from being trimmed are still without power.
Recently elected Governor Malloy had a press conference a short time ago. WIIC-AM in Bridgeport, which is very pro-union and left leaning, has been pounding this drum for days already – they would line up the power company managers in front of a firing squad if it was up to them…
So one brave reporter did toss the Democratic governor a hot potato and asked the Governor if the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) was engaged in a deliberate work slowdown. The IBEW had sent a letter to the media saying the reason for delay in restoring power was the power companies are not employing enough of their brothers… and they intended to give no ground on limits on working hours. When their work day is over, they’re going home.
WIIC immediately left the news conference and changed the subject to cyber bullying on the Internet.
Power companies rely heavily on sharing workers from nearby power companies to get involved in line repairs. Cutting of trees is mostly farmed out to independent contractors so the power guys can work on the lines where their skills are necessary. I heard this morning that crews were heading this way from Wisconsin. Perhaps they should have started them headed this way last Friday?

Your comment about those greenie weenies made me think of this great clip by George Carlin discussing “saving the planet”

I certainly hope none of these fruitcakes lights a candle or in any other way besmear the pristine face of Mama Gaia with foul carbon emissions. Perhaps a union goon could rub their hands and footsies for them. Oh! I’ve got it. Owlgore could let them insert their chilled appendages into his warm, wet, moist armpits. I’m just sayen….
Ahhh……. It’s really refreshing to see some other part of the country that has left wing looney’s and tree hugging green weenies. I love Piquerist’s Owl Gore’s comment, kudos !
And now with my thought on this issue. If the Connecticut greenweenies would like, It would be a pleasure to send them some of the California geenweenie’s spotted owls so they don’t sit and Pine away over someone trimming a tree close to power line. And besides they will have something to wipe their Ash with when they use the outhouse.
One of the reason I don’t like Connecticut is all the trees. I guess rain is so predictable that fire risk is not a serious concern – but places where you see for more than a few hundred feet are pretty rare.
North of here, the state is replacing a bridge over the river in Ansonia, a town that is rapidly dying and becoming a haven for drug dealers and users. The main former employer in town’s old factory is just sitting there with a skeleton crew keeping it from burning down. People here can’t see the connection between “I won’t pay taxes of schools” -> People with families won’t move there -> businesses leave -. young people can’t find a job -> unemployed young people with too much time on their hands get in trouble.
Anyhow, the people replacing the bridge cut down a tree on state owned land in order to set up the staging area for their equipment – and there was a huge fuss because the tree had been cut down for not consulting with the local tree committee to ask permission. I think some people were seriously hoping to press criminal charges.
Meanwhile the copper strippers keep doing their work, businesses downtown fail, the housing authority declares bankruptcy….
I just came back from a trip to the local HVAC supply store to try to buy a replacement compressor fan motor for a central air unit that failed yesterday. It’s 99F in the shade today in Georgia. In the past I’ve been able to buy replacement motors and switches with no problem. But today I’m told that due to new government rules they can’t sell products to me because I’m not a “licensed contractor”.
So I say, “Let me get this straight- I have a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and I design and service nuclear power plants, but some government wizard has concluded that it’s a risk to public safety to allow me to buy a simple 1/4-HP single-phase 208V electric motor?” “That’s right sir, unless you have a license (translation “union card”) you can’t buy from us.” “And good luck finding a licensed HVAC contractor on Labor Day weekend when the temps are heading over 100F. Sorry, we close in 3 hours.”
So this is apparently the new philosophy of desperation: Stimulate the economy and protect the public by making it unlawful to repair anything yourself. Georgia is supposedly a right to work state. I guess it technically still is, but not if your working for yourself. I’m surprised I’m still allowed to unstop my own toilet…
Well that is just Horse crap, Prboylan. No sense in that at all.
I guess if I needed another fan motor for my Fridge that I had to replace three years ago, they would say no?
I don’t have to thank Trumka for Labor day this year do I?
I may grill wild Atlantic salmon, caught in a fish pen in china, this weekend and refroze in my local china-mart.
Then again, I may just grill some yellow and zucchini squash(from MY garden) not mexico, Kabobs with some shrimp. Oh no, the shrimp is from Chi-ner too. Grrrrr.
I will just get some Yuengling beer and sit on my deck and have a cold one, then go to Burger King, they are open on Labor day. Trumka hasn’t helped them yet.
Think I will skip BK. Yeah just Yuengling this year : )
Have a good one Guys !
