Is creating memorials a mistake?

Israel has a lot more experience dealing with terrorism than we do.

When someone goes into a restaurant and blows themselves up, the cleanup crews immediately arrive, the damage is repaired, and if you walk by the next day, you would never know the place was bombed.    Their idea is that when you create a memorial to what a terrorist did, it creates further incentive for future terrorists.

I agree with that.   I think this whole thing yesterday, and building parks and memorials  and having globally televised services reading the names of the dead is exactly the wrong thing to do.   The 10 years of squabbling over the shape of the reflecting pools instead of putting up a new building is much more of an incentive to a future 9/11 than the “9/11 mosque” would have been.

Just to be clear, I’m not agreeing with the idea that the twin towers should have been built identical to what it was.   I worked with people who had worked in the building and it was a horrible place to work.   It was a New York / Port Authority make work boondoggle that should not have been built in the first place.   The buildings were never really rented out and the changes on Wall Street (automation of trading) mean the demand for office space in that area is drying up.

    I agree Art.
10 years was way too long to build anything. I blame ‘ mayor bloomberg’. He is too pro-muzzie.
I think I will go watch the movie ‘300’ , again.
    Molon Labe !!

Israel Profiles too , look at the Airport, no problem, El-Al airlines no problem, (and they live in the thick of ilsamic idiots) compared to the US and the liberal left that are afraid of their own shadows. The US should follow the example of Israel. To hell with politically corectness.
As far as the memorial goes, it shows muslims we will not be defeated, it’s a fact that when islamics defeat an enemy they build a mosque, so with that in mind they should not be allowed to build a mosque anywhere near ground Zero either. Maybe the US cities should have firehose stands on every corner just in-case a muslim feels like taking a little trip somewhere the Quarn dont mention.

I had this same discussion over the weekend. I am a Marine Corps Veteran and I am currently a Firefighter and an Emergency Services Dispatcher in my home town. We should NOT create memorials for events like 9-11. Instead we should focus our efforts on eradicating the earth of the individuals who advocate those types of cowardly acts, THEN we should build VICTORY MONUMENTS with their reamins so others will know we will NOT be terrorized!

🙂 In My Humble Opinion 🙂

As you know, I live in the NorthEast (since I have no alternative).

It is 100% predictable on a day like the 9/11 events, the people of New York will not once mention the attack on the Pentagon.

I can make a case for something for the firefighters and police who died that day, but not the people who died in the trade center who worked there. They did nothing more exceptional than going to work. They are just victims of the failure of the Federal Government to keep those people out of the country or to respond to their highly irregular behavior.

Glenn Beck started his show today with an angry diatribe, lumping together anyone who had a problem with the weekend’s events as being anti-American. Beck without a boss controlling his impulses is going to be a really bad idea. He’s graduated from being a rodeo clown to being an angry bully, and there are lots of people right about now looking for someone to follow.

Essentially, I agree with Art and I also agree with blsummer. Another of way saying “search and destroy” is “find them and kill them.” Let each rotting corpse of each arrogant, histrionic, control-freak, sanctimonious, caveman terrorist (and his friends and family if they are in the way or providing human shield cover) serve as mini-memorials all over the world. Build monuments after victory. Until then, Let The Bodies Hit the Flo!

The only thing that arose from the ashes of 9/11 seems to be the man made god with a Musolini attitude and styrafoam columns. and a islamic name that will not call terrorism what it is. I also agree with Art about the failing of the Federal Government and Perquerist whose statment could have not been said better.. My graditude to blsummer and Semper Fi .
