A global tax on the movement of funds has long been a goal of the Global Communist Movement. The G20 is actively considering such a tax, but unless it applies to every country, it won’t work – financial related businesses will just relocate to countries that refuse to participate.
Senator Tom Harkin has introduced a bill today proposing a 3 basis point tax (0.03%) tax, claiming that voters would never notice it.
The key thing is passing such a tax would establish the principle and the enforcement mechanism. In the beginning, the income tax was only 1% and only applied to the really rich people.
In the past, this tax has been mentioned in the context of the United Nations or the IMF as a way to provide permanent funding for global government, so the UN can operate without fear that large governments might refuse to pay for its operations.
With the fight within the UN at the moment over admitting “Palestine” to the United Nations, the connection couldn’t be more obvious.
I’ve long held the view that “Senator Tom Harkin” is a synonym for “Communist” … also for “putz.” Nobody should be surprised.
