Trey Atwater is a Green Beret based in North Carolina. He went home to Midland, Texas to spend time with his mom. He was traveling with his wife and 2 children.
The TSA screener at Midland noticed something in his caarry on bag and conducted a a search and found something with a “military grade wrapping”, whatever that means.
Officials say that at no time was anyone in danger, and some reports suggest it was a simple mistake.
There seems to be a Trey Scott Atwater from Midland who was born in February 1981, making him a month shy of being 31 years old. News reports describe him as being from Hope Mills, NC – which is Fayetteville, the home of Fort Bragg, the home of the Green Berets. so that all lines up. One report says he has been serving in Afghanistan on several tours.
He was returning to NC, which is a bit odd. Perhaps whatever he was carrying was not caught as he was going to Texas or perhaps wasn’t as dangerous as it is being made to sound.

The list of people currently being detained lists an address of 3806 PERMIAN CT and says to hold him for the USMS… (US Marshall Service?)
No detonator, no initiator, Army Sergeant Atwater was carrying c4, a “plastic” explosive that is inert without a detonator.

Look for Alex Jones to be talking about this for the next month.
On the positive side, the TSA actually caught it, even if it turns out to be an “accident”
A vague comment on the news story leaves a hint that we probably should ask who his father is….
Atwater is an explosives specialist, which makes all the sense in the world. Your typical Army grunt is not running around with C4. His day job is probably he runs around blowing up suspected IEDs in Afghanistan.
So he just forgot / didn’t know that there was some C4 in his luggage. It’s as normal a thing for him to carry as other people carrying a comb. For it to be there, he had to have flown with it the other direction and the TSA didn’t catch it. He was flying with his wife and two sons – not exactly the kind of situation suicide bombers have in their profile.
At the most conspiratorial, perhaps he didn’t want to go back for another tour of duty in Afghanistan and this was a way 🙂
TSA Drone: Excuse me, sir – can you tell me what this is?
Atwater: Oh shit. Yes, I can.
