The death of the 22 year old black man in Derby who was shot at 2 AM when the bars close – and none of the 50 people standing in the parking lot saw anything – mentions in the death announcement that he attended the Church of God in Christ in Ansonia. An earlier version mentioned he at one time had worked at Xpect, the grocery store that recently closed.
COGIC is a Memphis based church that was formed after the Civil War as a racially segregated church, which it remains to today. The centerpiece of this organization is the Memphis Mason Temple (named after the founder Charles Mason, not the FreeMasons).
