The Dewey in Dewey & LeBoeuf was Thomas E Dewey, the one time Governor of New York and Republican contender for US President in 1944 and 1948 (losing to FDR in 1944 and Harry Truman in 1948). Dewey was the ultimate example of the “North East Republican Rockefeller Republican Progressive Establishment” and supporter of the creation of the United Nations and global government – and a big supporter of Dwight Eisenhower, who would win the Presidential Race in 1952.

According to Wikipedia, Dewey’s neighbors included radio legends Edward R Murrow and Lowell Thomas, along with Norman Vincent Peale
