Time for some summer levity!
Fill in the “thought bubble”
While amusing on its own, this picture is more amusing with context. It was taken in downtown Pittsburgh Pennsylvania by a relative who was visiting there this weekend. This part of downtown Pittsburgh 40 years ago would have been crawling with UAW Steel workers drunk on Iron City Beer looking for someone to beat up.
He wasn’t aware that this weekend was Anthrocon 2012 – an apparently annual gathering of anthropomorphic people – persons who like to dress up in furry animal costumes.
Actually, they’re kind of using the term backwards – the term Anthropomorphic refers to injecting human characteristics and motivations into things that aren’t human… “The moon wept silently in the still night”, “the grandfather clock closed its eyes as the old man took his last breath”, “Mother Earth has a fever”… they’re more humans that wish they had animal traits.
One important subgroup of furries is “bronies” – (mostly) male persons who are fans of the TV show “My Little Pony”. If this is news to you, here is Fox News on the subject. They report, you decide.
No matter how much you ask, I won’t tell you how I know about any of this.

That looks like fun….wonder where I can get a Road Runner costume? Beep Beep!
Well, technically I think you would have to dress as Wiley E. Coyote to get in the door at the convention. Road Runners don’t technically have “fur”, to the best of my knowledge.
Okay, so nobody took my bait 🙂 I’ll go first
“This country is going to hell!”
“Look out for that bus!”
“Whatchoo lookin’ at?”
“Darn, my sheep costume is at the cleaners”
Caption #1: “Is the Green Party in town this week?”
Caption #2: “Those PETA folks sure come up with fun demonstrations…”
Caption #3: “I see Carnegie-Mellon is interviewing for new profs again…”
“Hmm, I never looked at a fuzzy animal this way before, but my loins are twitching for the first time since the 80’s.”
