Firefighter dies after being shot

This story has been loitering in the local news the past few days.

In Charlotte, we still publish the photos of people charged with a crime.

My tingly senses fired off today for the first time. I walked to the nearby deli (the shopping center has a pizza place, a deli, an Asian restaurant and a Starbucks, in addition to the prepared food options from Harris Teeter).

As I was walking home by myself along the edge of the parking lot, two guys who looked somewhat out of place – walking outbound but not carrying any packages and headed toward where there were few cars – set off my street smarts warning system. I altered my trajectory just enough that if they were about to approach me, they were going to have to make that intent obvious and commit – and deal with my reaction.

I had just come from the DMV and license plate places – in retrospect I’ve realized I should have driven a few miles further to a better part of town – the area of town I went to is largely where the people who no hablan ingles are congregating. A lot of sketchy people loitering in the parking lot and the employees dealing with people constantly trying to “get over” on the system.

In any case, I got my temporary driver license – only to learn that I can’t switch the registration and plates until my real driver’s license arrives in the mail (confirming my mailing address is real)… So I get to spend another day finishing this up. The good news is the license is good for 8 years at which point I’ll be 66 or dead.

Sorry to say but get used to such stories as that from WBTV. Such is life in the “new south”. I don’t miss living there. Hope you fair better than I did. I just got sick of seeing (and being a victim of) crime while cops stand around doing nothing because they can’t afford to bring down the wrath of Al and Jesse (and their many local imitators) or else they lose their jobs.

Those two thugs in Rowan county will probably be back on the streets in a few years (or less). You can tell from their pictures how remorseful they are. I’m sure they will be model citizens after they are “reformed” by the correctional system.

I looked for your Street Smart Warning System on Google Play and could not find it- maybe it is only for the EyePhone. 😉
