Playing with AJAX

While y’all are busy updating the station data :), I’m building new web skills for my resume now that I have lots of free time since y’all are going to do a lot of the data work. 🙂

A long time ago, I threatened to start dragging the web site more toward 2014. One thing that immediately comes to mind is doing predictive search like Google does – when you start typing in a search term – looking for Jeff Rense? I should be able to populate likely things you might be searching for character by character narrowing the choices.

So here is the first piece of the puzzle

Click Me, I dare you!

This is the first building block – being passed a string of characters, it returns the first 10 matching items. This is still manual because the Ajax/Javascript part is not in place yet. Imagine that list appearing on your screen, and you could click on the one you want, and up comes that station…

Anticipating what a certain someone is going to do – the domain is FCC licensed radio stations – if you use “C” or “X”, you won’t get any results. And please no links to songs or youtube videos in the comments.

Let’s keep the focus on the web site.

OK, neat feature when you know at least part of the stations call sign, but what about looking for a guest host, for instance looking for all stations streaming da Weiner at 6 pm?
