America with a C

Somewhat on the spur of the moment, I decided to go see the Dinesh D’Souza’s movie “America”

The premise of the movie is – somewhat like “It’s a wonderful life” with Jimmy Stewart – how would the world be different if the United States had never happened?

Since the movie just came out, I will hold off on my observations for a few days in case other people decide to go see the movie. In the meantime, Happy Interdependence Day!

Just remember all the people in England have to work on Friday – chumps.

Not that I’ll go see the movie, but is it something akin to people living in a world where their elected leader decides to flood the Homeland with hundreds of thousands of children from around the world, take them into custody for a few weeks, or at least long enough to firmly implant the thought “ALWAYS VOTE FOR THE DEMOCRAT, EVEN IF THEY ARE STRANGLING YOU, SUCKING OUT YOUR LIFE BLOOD, OR DOING THE SAME TO YOUR MOTHER?”

“America” fails to deliver on the answer to “How would the world be different without her?” Is very superficial about how the creation of America changed history and government around the world.

If the American Revolution had not been won, would the French Revolution have happened? What would France’s role be in the world? What if the war of 1812 had been supported by the English colonies in America? Would slavery have ended around the world sooner, later or not at all? How would World War I and World War II have been different – or would they even have happened without the United States? How did American Capitalism and the New York Stock Exchange change the way that businesses form? Would the transcontinental railroad have been built? Would France control the Mississippi River? Would Spain control California? Could Henry Ford have built his company in a country that was a colony of England? What if America had princes and dukes and and lords and hereditary government? If George Washington had died during the Revolution [as portrayed in the movie], would the United States have never been formed? Would Israel exist? [Not even an indirect reference to that] Of course, the problem is – there is absolutely no way to know any answers to that hypothetical question – nor even guess. Every event in history is dependent on all the events that came before it.

The only vision of “the world without the United States” that the Dinesh D’sousa provides is that a few of the icons of America – the Lincoln Memorial, the Statue of Liberty, and Mount Rushmore would not exist – that is not what America is. Of course, the Statue of Liberty was built by France, and Mount Rushmore was carved by a con man (Gutzon Borglum) from the who was a fugitive from the law for trying to carve similar statues in Lookout Mountain in Georgia honoring the Confederacy and taking the money without finishing the project. He was from a Mormon family, was a freemason and a member of the KKK – but don’t let facts get in the way of our cherished icons.

I fully expect that Dinesh will become the next David Brock – Brock wrote the book “the Real Anita Hill” which he pimped to naive Conservatives, then announced that he was gay and went to work for Media Matters – destroying Conservative media. His 2016 movie surely did not convince any Conservatives to vote for Romney, and surely did influence people in the middle to vote for Obama lest they be accused of being wacko xenophobic racists.

If you are a white Christian conservative – and especially if you are a Southerner – this movie will not inspire you to love your country. The actual content of the movie is talking about the “lies” told by people on the left – he gives more screen time to the people making the arguments than to the people who refute the arguments, and uses esclusively “people of color” to make his points. He dwells at length on the Northern version of the so-called “Civil” War. He talks briefly with Ward Churchill, who is not an American Indian – but says he is – Churchill fabricated the story that the US Military deliberately spread smallpox in the Mississippi valley (A story that my sister bought hook line an sinker – because she WANTED to believe it was true) – Churchill’s footnote on this narrative says things the source doesn’t say at all – and the man who wrote that book still is alive and says Ward Churchill is wrong and a liar. None of that was mentioned in Dineeh’s rebuttal – just that “well, Europe had plagues too”.

If you saw the movie Broadcast News, you should be familiar with the concept of a “jump cut” where the interviewer’s face is shown for a few seconds nodding thoughtfully – but it’s actually an edit where some portion of what the interview subject said has been deleted or put in a different order or isn’t even the answer to the question that was asked.

On top of that, a number of the historic events are recreations and not actual real video. Obviously, Lincoln’s stuff is recreation – more recent things are harder to be sure. It became impossible to know if you were viewing something that was real or something that was a recreation -like footage of Saul Alinsky (“Rules for Radicals”). Alan Dershowitz was shown near the end without identifying who he is and why he has turned suddenly anti-Obama (or so fast I didn’t catch it).

It makes perfect sense now why Bill Ayers agreed to appear on TV with Dinesh to promote the movie – he does not view Dinesh at all as a threat to Ayers’ plans – but as a future ally. Bill Ayers is playing 3D chess. Dinesh is a pawn.

Rush took a call from a nice woman who ‘informed’ him that Costco had pulled Dinesh D’Souza’s new book from their shelves. Sometime later Costco explains it was pulled strictly due to poor sales of the book. So, wonder how Hillary Clinton’s book signings of her book, ‘Hard Choices’ is doing at Costco? There was supposed to be a supply of a 1,000 books. I suppose one could also pick up a 2 lb. tub of hummus so long as they are in line.

There is a great photo of a young Hillary recently released in March 2014 embedded within the story. Can anyone explain why she is contorting her fingers? And, why is this photo in the story?
