Cumulus radio just telegraphed the future. While listening to the 4 AM hour of Red Eye Radio, a peculiar thing appeared. While it was clearly the red eye hosts, this show was ID’d as the Motor Kote Show.
Clearly, the show was being sponsored by this product – and the owner of the company was controlling the conversation, and he particularly seemed interested in talking about NASCAR. There was only one caller, who clearly was a plant – the question was so specific and obtuse but only a person associated with the company would possibly ask the question.
Remember the day that Mike Huckabee debut, the Cumulus VP of programming called in and pretended to be an ordinary listener congratulating Mike on what a wonderful show he had. If you’re familiar with the rules, the hour was clearly identified as being a sponsored program – essentially an infomercial.
Cumulus and ‘ominous’ really seem to go together
I wonder if Rupert Murdoch has any thoughts of buying terrestrial radio stations. Fox owns some TV stations, which would constrain the radio station ownership. FOXNews radio has almost no presence. Or how about if news Corp. bought premier, and Glenn Beck ended up working for Fox again?
