Website challenge of the day

This “looking at web sites and tell me what the format it is” can be much harder than you think. There are no “Trophies” for wrong answers.

See if you can identify the format of this web site only by looking at it, not peeking at Wikipedia to make yourself look like you have an expanded brain. The station is WMYE-FM at 91.9 in Fort Myers, Florida.

The station used to play hard rock music. Maybe it still does? What’s your best guess? and show your work at how you arrived at your answer. Is it possible this web site isn’t even for that station? Class is in session.

From the program line-up it looks like a Christian Contemporary/Area Sports.

From the coverage map (lower right on callfm.com home page), “Call FM” appears to consist of at least four call-letter stations and several translators:

So do we assume it’s a simulcast? Website doesn’t really say. Website seems to indicate local sports as main emphasis, but recent song list on website shows christian alternative rock. Listening online confirms christian rock. The acid test would be to see what’s playing on Friday night, H.S. football or christian rock.

Oops, meant to capitalize “Christian” throughout the above post.

One can never be absolutely sure what is a simulcast. An FM translator absolutely is (ie K123QZ). Full power FM stations are less clear, and the rules are more relaxed in the big scheme of things, like having a staffed office for every station.

The markers of what the station is are the “Bible” menu option, the station being below 92 MHz and the pleas all over the web site to please send money.

The Nation of Islam’s newspaper is called “the Daily Call” – is Christian Rock your final answer?

  3. Christian alternative rock with a healthy dose of high school sports. I get that from the list of last 10 songs played and the big banner under the station logo.
