Facebook Counts are broken

For several years, I’ve gathered Facebook “like” counts using a published API for this purpose. They provide an interesting comparison of popularity.

The counts are updated only when the station is pulled up in the station editor or when someone initiates an update. I have a vague memory of receiving a warning message a while back. I don’t know if they just changed the api or are actively blocking the server.

Does anyone care?

  1. Art Stone says:

The API still works from the test system, but gets a “Rate Limit” error coming from the real server. Possibly linode is banned in general or a spider hammered the API via my facebook count page and got the server blacklisted.

In any case, I don’t have a facebook account and think what they are doing is evil, so at this point I don’t really care.
