I happened to have a station in Louisiana on Friday morning and the host was talking about the probable blowout on Saturday of Senator Mary Landrieu. The only reason there is a need for this election is libertarians siphoned off votes preventing the Republican from getting 50%.
No poll shows her to have any chance and her failure to get the XL pipeline vote in the lame duck Senate just cemented her fate.
The memory of Huey Long is dead, and that’s a good thing. Southerners now have let go of the notion of being a “born Democrat” and understand it was always a choice, not indentured servitude.
Last paragraph is spot on. I know many ‘yellow dog’ democrats who finally voted for some other party beginning in 2008. They all say they walk in fear that their grandparents are going to come out of the grave and kill them, but I hope their grandparents would not be so stupid as to think that today’s Democratic party bears ANY resemblance to that of the 1850-1960 period.
