“We will never submit”

That’s the latest word from Qadhafi as NATO continues to attack and turn Qadaffi’s compound into rubble.

I continue to observe that Libya seems to be going out of its way to not attack the attacking NATO forces.   Perhaps Libya is that impotent, or maybe there is another purpose to Kadaffi’s strategy to play dead (other than against the Libyan “rebels”).

The assumption seems to be that if NATO gets lucky and kills Qadhafi, that Libya will do a “Ding Dong, the Witch is Dead” dance and celebrate their liberation from Evil.   That’s not my sense at all.   Who is going to bring control back to Tripoi?   NATO?   Troops and police from East Libya?   The UN?

I don’t doubt that NATO will demand reparations for the costs of destroying Libya and take the money directly out of the Libyan treasury’s “frozen” assets.

President Obama seems to want Germany to play the role of North African global police force.    Unlike England, Italy and France, Germany doesn’t have a history of colonial rule in North Africa – but that is also problematic if you’re trying to occupty a country without a common language between the occupiers and the occupied.   Very few Libyans speak German, and few Germans speak Arabic.

Germans also have 60 years of the U.S. telling them they can’t be trusted to have their own military forces again – other than for self defense.   It’s a huge psychological barrier for the Germans.
