Pashawar is the last major city on the historic “Silk Road” supply route into Afghanistan that goes through the Khyber pass. It is one of the most militarily strategic places in the world.

Some very interesting things were happening in Afghanistan in 1986. In October 1986, the USSR announced it was going to withdraw from Afghanistan. At that time, that area would have been swarming with US government agents supporting the Afghani “resistance” (Osama Bin Laden, et al)
